1. DIALux Luxicon program, installed with
2. Cooper Crouse-Hinds luminaire catalogs plugin,
3. AutoCAD (.dwg/.dxf) sample layout.

The program and its plugin can be downloaded from Luxicon Pro download page.

How To

1. Open program, on Welcome window select New Interior Project.
2. First set the units first. Click Cancel on Room Editor sidebar.
   
3. Go to menu File ⇒ Settings ⇒ General Options.
4. Go to tab Global, set the units on Dimensions and Lighting. In this tutorial use Imperial for both units. Then OK.
   
5. In drawing workspace, right click mouse inside room and select Edit Room Geometry option.
6. In Room Editor sidebar, insert estimated Length, Width, and Height of the platform. Example: 60ft, 60ft, and 11.5ft. Then OK.
   
7. Insert drawing from AutoCAD to ease room and lighting editing. Before importing CAD file, things to be considered is simplify layout drawing with minimal elements which are:
   • Structure layout
   • Equipment layout
   • Lighting layout (if you have assumed before)

   Elements such as dimension, cable & tray layout, or notes; recommended to be deleted.
   

8. To insert AutoCAD drawing, go to menu File ⇒ Import ⇒ DWG or DXF File…
9. Click Next ⇒ Browse for CAD file ⇒ Next, select units, choose Inch ⇒ Next ⇒ Next. The CAD drawing will be the background.
10. In drawing workspace, right click mouse inside room and select Edit Room Geometry option. Drag the edge of geometry to match up with drawing background.
    
11. To add more corner, right click on the edge of polygon ⇒ Insert Point. Drag the point and add as many corner/point to match the platform layout. Click OK to finish room editing.
    
12. On Project Manager sidebar, in Project tab, choose all Wall surfaces sub-element (use Shift to multi select), then set Transparency in Material tab to 100%. Since the platform doesn’t have wall.
    
13. Insert Round column from Room elements in Object tab sidebar. Set the diameter then click Insert. Drag to match with platform layout. Copy-paste to duplicate the column. You can also add any elements to the platform.
    
14. To insert lighting fixture (luminaire) go to menu Luminaire Selection ⇒ DIALux Catalogs ⇒ Cooper Crouse-Hinds. A program will open. Choose lighting fixture, double click the desired fixture. Tips: before select fixture, try to update the catalogue by clicking the UPDATE button.
    
15. Back to Luxicon, detail about the fixture will be shown in sidebar. Go to Mounting tab, choose Mounting Type to User defined, adjust the Suspension Height. Click Insert to insert the fixture. Drag the fixture to match with layout. Copy-paste to duplicate.
    
16. Also adjust Rotations for particular fixture, like the one mounted on stanchion. To make it ease, change view to 3D View.
    
17. Insert Calculation Surface to show the luminance value later after the calculation process finished. Go to menu Paste ⇒ Calculation surfaces… From sidebar choose Calculation Surface then click Insert.
    
18. When the surface box appear in drawing, right click on it choose Edit Calculation Surface. Resize, add and move point just like when editing Room to match the platform layout. Click OK when finish editing.
    
19. Time to start calculation. Go to menu Output ⇒ Start Calculation… A window will appear, tick all option ⇒ click OK.
20. After calculation end, go to menu Output ⇒ Configure Output… From sidebar tick any desired option or choose from available template from Name drop-down field.
21. To show the calculation report instantly by go to menu File ⇒ Export ⇒ Save Output as PDF… If the built-in PDF converter didn’t work use 3rd party software to convert PDF for Windows or print directly to printer by go to menu File ⇒ Print…

4. The traced object will be located above the original, so move it to see the difference. Select it, right click then Ungroup. Zoom in to the traced object. Simplify the overall object by deleting unnecessary shape, usually shape that overlapped other shape with almost the same geometry. Here is my result:

Don’t worry about the color though. We can change it in CAD program.

5. After simplified, convert it to CAD-compatible file. Delete the original bitmap object, menu File -> Save As…
6. Select Save as type: *.dxf. Click Save.
7. Open CAD program, such as AutoCAD. File -> Open. Select the .dxf file. Now you can modify it as free as you want. FYI the objects are converted to spline type. For text, I delete the traced one and use the text command to recreate it.

Scaling with BLOCK command

Quote from CAD Forum:

If you want to scale an object, or a group of objects, or the whole DWG drawing with different (independent) values of X-, Y- and Z-scales, you can use blocks.
Non-uniform scaling (resizing) can be done by enclosing the scaled entities into a block and then reinserting this block in a non-uniform scale (X/Y/Z).

How to:

1. Create a new block or type BLOCK in command.

2. Select object and specify the base point.

3. After create block, INSERT it and fill different value in Scale option. OK.

Scaling with Lisp utility, ScaleXYZ

1. Download the free lisp utility, in www.xanadu.cz/en/download
2. Load in AutoCAD Tools menu -> AutoLISP -> Load Application…
3. Select the file, scalexyz.vlx
4. After it loaded, use command either scalex or scaley or scalez to scale the object(s) non-uniformly.
Note: the AutoLISP feature is not available in AutoCAD LT version.

Study Case: Electrical Symbols
With these two feature, Visibility Feature and Define Attribute, in AutoCAD Dynamic Block feature, it is possible to create one block that can show different objects with different value. For example, I have three type of electrical switch (MCB, LBS, and IS) and when I want to insert particular switch, I could insert a current value freely.

All 12 symbols above is one block!

The Steps…

1. Create the symbols as many as you want, but don’t create the variable value, in this case, the current value. Define Attribute feature will create it later. Select all and click Make Block.
2. Fill the Name. Set the Pick point. Check the Open in block editor to directly edit the block. OK.

3. Make sure the Block Authoring Palettes is showed. Select the Visibility Parameter. Place it near the main symbol.

4. Double click on Visibility Parameter, on the drawing not on the palettes. On Visibility States window, create new visibility states as many as your symbols and rename it to suit each symbol.

5. Before we continue more on Visibility Parameter, lets add Attribute first to each symbol. Click Define Attribute. Each symbol must have unique Tag on Attribute option. OK.

6. Place the Attribute to each symbol, you can copy it to each symbol, double click it and change the Tag and Prompt option to be unique each symbol.

7. Now lets get back to Visibility Parameter. Watch over top-right corner of the window where Visibility toolbar is placed.

8. Click on Visibility Mode, so that, see the command line, BVMODE: 1. Since the visibility state is in MCB1, select all symbols except the MCB1 and click Make Invisible. Change to the other state, for example in LBS2 state only LBS2 symbol which is visible. Click on Make Visible to make object visible in current state. And click Make Invisible to make objects invisible.


9. After all visibility states is defined, move all symbols into one place.

10. Save and close the block editor. Try to reinsert the block. You will be prompted to insert a current value.

11. To change to other symbol, click on the blue triangle. Choose the desired symbol. Double click on the symbol and fill the desired attribute value.


12. To change particular symbol, go to Block Editor. Choose the desired visibility state. Click on Visibility Mode, so that, see the command line, BVMODE: 0. Edit the symbol.

The case: I have drawings (from AutoCAD sample file) with various color like this

I want to print it in grayscale, the problem is when the light color, like light green and light blue in this drawing will be printed in light gray and the result will be seen unclear.

To get darker result, open Page Setup window (File -> Page Setup Manager… -> Modify…) or Plot window (File -> Plot…), click the pen icon in Plot style table (pen assignments).

Choose the color you want to edit the printed result. In Properties option, choose other color which is darker, like Black for the darkest result. Click Save As…

Save it with other name.

When you want to print or modify the page setup choose the plot style you have saved.

3. If you want to hide the other layer, unsiolate first if you have isolate layer(s), after type layiso [enter], type s for settings.

1st way is access from Menu Browser, located on top-left of window. View -> Visual Styles.

2nd way is from Tabs in Ribbon menu. But to do this you must change the workspace to 3D Modelling by clicking Workspace Switching.

After that change visual styles from View tabs.
