We not talked about InkScape or OpenOffice or QCAD. These software is amazing for me because the tools and the way they used are almost the same with the commercial one. The softwares are:

1. Serif DrawPlus SE — alternative to CorelDRAW.

2. Kingsoft Office Personal 2007 — alternative to Microsoft Office 2003. Download here.

3. progeSOFT progeCAD Smart 2009 — alternative to AutoCAD and not for commercial use.

Create Glassy Effect on CorelDRAW

On this tutorial shows how to add a glassy effect on a object.

1. Create a rectangle, for example like image above.
2. With Bezier Tool, create a polygon with wavy edges on its bottom. Fill with white color and blank color on its outline.

3. Select the polygon, click Interactive Transparency Tool.

4. Modify the properties:
– Transparency Type: Linear
– Fountain Transparency Angle: -90

5. Go to menu: Tools -> Options. On the Workspace - Edit option, uncheck Auto-center new PowerClips contents

6. Select the polygon, go to menu Effects -> PowerClip -> Place Inside Container… Click on the rectangle.

Fillet tool is used to create a round corner.
Preview:

Note: Fillet feature seems available starting from X3 version. CMIIW

How To

1. Create a random polygon for practice.

2. Click on Shape Tool (F10).

3. Select object. Select nodes you want to fillet. Use click n drag or with shift button to select multiple nodes.

4. Go to Window menu –> Dockers –> Fillet/Scallop/Chamfer

5. A new docker will be shown on the right window.
Choose Operation: Fillet. Insert the Radius value. Click Apply.

Tutorial CorelDRAW: Export Object with Transparent Background

The case:

I’ve create objects with CorelDRAW like this:

see closely the white line in the text.

And then I want to edit those objects in another image editor, such as Photoshop, so it become like this:

The Steps:

Select objects -> File -> Export…. Select Save as type: PNG, click Export.

Don’t forget to check Selected only.
Determine the size in the next window, don’t forget to check Transparent background, click OK.
Select the Masked Area option, click OK. Leave the Color Table to black.

I prefer to use PNG format since it give the best quality than GIF format. If you want to use GIF format, it’s better to use PNG from CorelDRAW and then edit it in Photoshop and export the image to GIF.
