AutoCAD Tips: Use LAYISO to Quickly Show Layers You Only Need

LAYISO command isolates the layer of selected objects so that all other layers are turned off. This is very useful to quickly reduce the visual complexity of a drawing without open the Layer Properties Manager.

Before:

Before isolating layer(s)

After:

After isolating layer(s)

How To:

  1. Type layiso [enter].
  2. Choose object(s) you want to isolate [enter].
  3. If you want to hide the other layer, unsiolate first if you have isolate layer(s), after type layiso [enter], type s for settings.
  4. Type o for Off [enter], then choose the object(s)
  5. To unisolate, type layuniso [enter]

Show Command in Toolbar:

To show the command in toolbar, right click in toolbar and choose Layers II

Choose Layers II

I agree whole heartedly, that the LAYISO command is a very useful one. There are a few good ones on the LAYERS II toolbar. I also find the LAYERWALK command a great shortcut for use on complex drawings. I have lately started using the DYNAMICVIEW command for most of the same reasons, and in similar applications.

Are you familiar with the SOLPROF command? It is extremely useful when working from 3D solids.

hmm nice info. I think solprof useful for 3D object projection. I ussualy work with 2D drawing, so I rarely use this command.

Nice blog dude, I just stopped by to look at this wonderful blog
Really learning AutoCAD is the best step towards my career growth and because of my mentors i am now a Civil Designer Most of my 2D CAD experience has been with AutoCAD LT. I’ve also used the full version of AutoCAD but honestly LT meets my 2D needs just fine. I don’t run LISP routines or scripting and if I need any 3D capability I go to SolidWorks so, for me LT is all I need. DraftSight will have no issues replacing my seat of AutoCAD LT and in my opinion AutoCAD LT is about the level of product the current release of DraftSight is. My older seat of software isn’t compatible with the newest operating systems but I don’t use the software enough to justify the upgrade costs. This makes DraftSight a very attractive product for me since it can meet all my 2D needs and it costs me nothing. the BEST institute what I got to learnt AutoCAD is Engineering Business Experts and Emerging Solutions (EBEES) at Janakpuri Distt. Centre their faculty helped a lot to get my grip on the subject and the expert advice given by the visiting faculties @ EBEES shaped me into an industry demanded person.
